Letter: Neighbors help neighbors in Lewes

November 16, 2018

I understand that those Lewes residents living near the firehouse are inconvenienced by the fire sirens. But, has it occurred to you that the sirens not only call our first responders to alarms, but also serve to alert the rest of the community that responders are entering the traffic lanes, and help to alert the rest of us to yield right of way?

This may save precious time in helping to save the life of a member of your family, a friend, or other community resident in a fire or other 911 life-threatening emergency.

Our Lewes first responders have twice now saved the life of a member of our family. A community is living together in an environment where we may need to make some sacrifices and focus more on the “we” than “me.”  As we continue to see more and more each day, it takes a village, and I am proud to call the community of Lewes my home for the past 20 years, where neighbors help neighbors.
