Cinema by the Canal to screen films Aug. 18, 25

August 14, 2019

When circumstances beyond their control forced the postponement of two movies, members of Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park, with the support of Citizens Bank, made lemonade out of lemons to present Sunday Cinema by the Canal.

Free movies will be shown at dusk the last two Sundays in August in Lewes Canalfront Park at 211 Front St. in historic Lewes.

The classic “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” will be screened Sunday, Aug. 18. High school student Ferris Bueller, played by Matthew Broderick in his breakout role, wants a day off from school and has developed an incredibly sophisticated plan to pull it off. He talks his friend Cameron into taking his father's prized Ferrari, springs his girlfriend from school, and leads them into Chicago for the day. They go on a raucous journey through the city as they try to stay one step ahead of their principal and Ferris' sister.

A great family-friendly film, “Incredibles 2,” will be offered Sunday, Aug. 25. The Incredibles hero family takes on a new mission, which involves a change in family roles: Mr. Incredible must manage the house while his wife Elastigirl goes out to make superheros legal again. But when a dangerous new threat arises, it is up to the entire family to neutralize the threat and save the day once again.

Thursday evenings through the end of August are also scheduled with a concert and a play in Lewes Canalfront Park.

Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre will perform “The Wizard of Oz” at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 22, with a rain date of Friday, Aug. 23.

Concerts by the Canal will host area favorite Indian River, formerly the Clifford Keith Band, at 7 p.m., Aug. 29.

Events are free and the entire community is invited. Attendees may bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic suppers for this free family entertainment on the banks of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.
