Diners and beach-goers can enjoy coastal cuisine with a view of Rehoboth Bay at the new Sunset Deck in Dewey Beach.
Set within Hyatt Place, the restaurant uses local vendors for breads, seafood and produce, and has received rave reviews since it began offering to-go meals in mid-May, General Manager Drew DiFonzo said.
“We’re full steam ahead now,” DiFonzo said, “And taco toss is coming back next year.”
An April 23 arson destroyed the adjacent lighthouse structure and Lighthouse Restaurant that was under construction and set to open this spring, but DiFonzo said plans always called for using the deck as a dining-area extension of the Lighthouse Restaurant.
“We just rebranded it as Sunset Deck,” he said. “We have fire pits on the deck, and a great ambience and atmosphere.”
Menu offerings include starters like wings, buffalo shrimp and boardwalk fries with cheese, truffle-parmesan or crab and cheese toppings; sandwiches and tacos; raw and steamed shellfish; and crab cakes, glazed salmon and pan-seared filet.
Beach-friendly fare includes chicken tenders, shrimp and chicken salads, and wraps that are easy to take and eat on the adjacent public bay beach. To-go cocktails, beer and wine are also available.
Outside seating will be open Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, with live entertainment Friday and Saturday. Starting Wednesday, June 10, the restaurant will open daily at 11:30 a.m.
“At the end of the day, we’re the best place in the area for waterfront and sunset dining,” DiFonzo said. “There’s no place at the Delaware beaches with a better view.”
Sunset Deck is at 1301 Coastal Highway bayside behind Hyatt Place. Order online at www.sunsetdeckdeweybeach.com or call 302-227-4333; use Van Dyke Avenue to access the restaurant and bay beach.
