Racial justice alliance scholarship applications due April 3

February 3, 2022

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice is accepting applications for its 2022 Charlotte King Scholarship Program.

Several scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to local graduating seniors who identify as Black and/or African American. The essential criterion is a demonstrated concern for furthering racial understanding and justice. The deadline for submitting an application is Sunday, April 3.

“We designed the scholarship program to lend support to students who understand that racial justice requires a commitment to community involvement and action,” said Erica Novak, chair of the SDARJ education committee. “We are seeking applicants who give serious thought to how they might carry through such a commitment as they pursue further education and their personal careers.”

Applications will be evaluated on the basis of students’ written responses to two questions regarding their thoughts on race relations and their aspirations for the future.

To be eligible for a scholarship award, the applicant must be a resident of Sussex County who is planning to continue their education beyond high school in the fall. Awards may be used for study in any qualifying institution, regardless of location.

Eligible students should submit their application electronically, along with their high school transcript and a letter of reference.

For the application form, go to the students tab at sdarj.org and search scholarship programs.
