Royals girls fall to Bucs, defeat Dragons in ESIAC semis

Delmarva Christian to meet Sts. Peter & Paul in finals round

The Delmarva Christian girls’ basketball team fell Feb. 13 to No. 4-ranked Caravel 44-67. It was only the Royals’ second loss of the season.

Senior Ainsley Bell led all scorers with 23 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Journey Handy chipped in nine points and three rebounds. Josephine Peranteau added eight points and three rebounds.

Anaya Price led the Bucs with 19 points.

The Royals were down 29-20 at the halftime break and lost the second half 38-24 to take the 44-67 loss. Caravel moves to 12-5.

The Royals met the Salisbury School Feb. 15 in the ESIAC Conference semifinal and garnered a 29-22 win over the Dragons.

Handy led the Royals with 12 points. Bell added five, while Layni Dukes scored four and Bella Marinelli hit for three. Mia Elliott, Evelyn Bohinski and Ryley McCluskey each hit a basket.

The Royals are 17-2, while Salisbury School ends its season at 9-10.

Bell achieved her 1,000th career point in the Royals’ 64-50 victory over Delcastle Feb. 11. She recorded a double-double, tallying 27 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, six steals and six blocks.

“Ainsley is such an incredible athlete,” said Royals head coach Jedidiah Roach. “She has accomplished a milestone that athletes dream about. She is one the most efficient players I have ever coached, and also a model student and ambassador of the school and Christ. I’m so thankful to have coached her these years, and I’m so glad that she was able to reach one of her goals.”

The Royals will play host to Sts. Peter & Paul in the finals of the ESIAC tournament Friday, Feb. 17. Game time is 5 p.m.
