Reginald Irving Effort Jr., proud veteran

March 28, 2023

Reginald "Reggie" Irving Effort Jr., 84, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was born Aug. 31, 1938, in North Tarrytown, N.Y., son of the late Reginald I. Effort Sr. and Geraldine Effort.

A proud veteran, Reggie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating high school and honorably served his country. After his honorable discharge, Reggie began a lifelong career with IBM in the security department, a job he found both rewarding and challenging at times. He married his beloved wife, Patricia Beckett-Effort, Aug. 30, 1991, and together they enjoyed many beautiful years and numerous adventures. An outdoorsman to his core, he enjoyed fishing and traveling, and could often be found playing cards with dear friends and family. He was a dedicated volunteer for many community service groups in White Plains, N.Y., and Delaware, an activity he found most rewarding. Reggie was a proud member of The Sons of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro,  Amvets Post 2 in Millsboro, Tarrytown Rod and Gun Club, and Tarrytown N.A.AC.P. Above all, he truly cherished time spent with those he held most dear. Reggie was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Loved by many, he will be forever missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin, Rodney, Wayne, Dennis and Carlton. Reggie is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Patricia Beckett-Effort; his children, Kendall V. Effort, Reginald Effort III and Thomas Greene; his grandchildren; his sisters: Lorraine Taylor, Loretta Smith and Karen Simmons; and his numerous nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, at Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
