May 23, 2012 – Today, Norm Sugrue, Owner of Big Fish Restaurant Group, announced he is endorsing Glen Urquhart for the newly created 6th State Senate District seat. The 6th District will serve the Milton, Harbeson, Lewes, Rehoboth and Dewey Beach area.
“I endorse Glen Urquhart for the 6th state senate seat. He is a man that understands how to get things done,” says Norm Sugrue. “Glen has been successful as a private-sector job creator. Glen meets challenges head-on and doesn't back down because something may be difficult to do. It is a great honor to endorse Glen. I believe he is what we need in this state to help employers have faith to risk their own resources to create the jobs we need in Sussex County.”
Urquhart welcomed Mr. Sugrue’s endorsement by saying, “I am thankful for Norm’s support. I am impressed with his vision for growing strong businesses and his dedication to his employees. Norm is a man that works hard and has been successful in a tough economy. I appreciate his support for our campaign.”
As the Republican nominee for the United States House of Representatives in 2010, Glen won over 70% of the election districts making up the new 6th State Senate District. He has served as Chairman of the Sussex County Republican Party as well as on the Delaware State Police Advisory Council for Troop 7. Glen was also appointed by Presidents Reagan and Bush to serve as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission.
Born in Pittsburgh in 1948, the great grandson of an indentured servant, Urquhart was the first in his family to graduate from college in 1971 from the University of Virginia. Shortly after graduating, he founded Urquhart & Company. As an entrepreneur, Glen has started and been successful in numerous business ventures.
Now retired from decades of building businesses and creating jobs, Glen is running for the 6th State Senate District seat to help restore economic growth. “Being an advocate for my neighbors will be my full-time job. I will have no other competing interests. My constituents will be my only boss. My commitment will be to create jobs in Sussex County, reduce government to rebuild trust in the business community, curb excessive regulations that kill jobs, and improve education,” says Urquhart. “Having walked in their shoes, I will be the ally employers need to start hiring again.”
