The John J. Williams Conference Center and Museum had its grand opening Nov. 8. The family home of Sen. John J. Williams and his wife Elsie is now a museum and conference center located at 105 State St. in Millsboro.
I was astonished to hear the great history behind Sen. Williams, who served in the U.S. Senate from 1947-70 and was often called “the conscience of the senator. He was also a maverick for small business. Many in attendance shared memorable warm stories of the senator and his wife along with his remarkable achievements.
This is a true testament of the legacy and distinguished heritage that Millsboro has, and I hope when the museum opens to the public all will take a moment to appreciate how the Williams family has contributed to not just Millisboro, but also Sussex County and the state of Delaware as a whole.
Learning something new every day is a privilege, and I for one am elated to have such great history in my backyard. Many of us travel John J. Willams Highway (Route 24) without the knowledge of his footprint on our state.
