Cape girls’ basketball surges past Senators

Vikings play for conference championship Feb. 21
February 19, 2026

The Cape girls’ basketball team ended its regular season with a 74-20 victory over Dover Feb. 18. The Vikings move to 18-2.

The Vikings opened the dominant win with a 31-point first period, then took a 47-14 lead into halftime. Emptying the bench liberally throughout the contest, Cape coach Ron Dukes was proud of the way each member of his team played.

“We had fun,” Dukes said. “I don’t know that we had fun for a few games. It’s all been tense. Tonight, everyone was happy and had a smile on their face. They did everything we’ve been talking about all season, like making layups. Seeing their faces and their smiles in the locker room at halftime, during the game and at the end of the game, I think we can carry that into Saturday’s championship game.”

Amalia Fruchtman led the Vikings with 21 points. Jurnee White and Mikaela Gordan each scored nine. Harper Mamele tallied eight, and Maya Yngve knocked down seven.

The Vikings play Early College School Saturday, Feb. 21, for the Henlopen Conference Championship. The game starts at 1 p.m. at Dover High School.
