After a tough 4-0 loss to Stephen Decatur March 31, the Cape softball team’s bats came alive in a 17-0 win over Dover March 31 at Bill Cordrey Field. The Vikings slammed 11 hits in the game.
Cape scored six runs in the first inning, but the bats weren’t finished, as they put up five more in the second, one in the third and five more in the fourth.
Sophomore Jordyn Bowe went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshmen Mia Scott, Makaila Sellers and Riley Windish each drove in two runs.
Scott slammed a triple, while Sellers and Olivia Mekulski each had a double.
Mekulski, Madeline O’Malley and Emma Reynolds each had an RBI.
Pitcher Sara Craig struck out five batters in two innings of work. Freshman Riley Windish entered the game in relief in the third, striking out five.
“There were good contributions from several players,” said Cape coach Mike Tkach. “We did what we were supposed to do. We were able to get some key hits. We ran the bases very well and took advantage of some misplays by Dover. To me, it was a good bounce-back game after losing 4-0 to Steven Decatur the other day.”
Cape hosts Lake Forest at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, April 2, before spring break. They return to action Thursday, April 9, when they play Sussex Tech at the Pyle Center in Roxana.
