Man, 81, dies in crash near Georgetown
Delaware State Police continue to investigate after a Georgetown man died in a single-vehicle crash April 17 near Georgetown.
Police said Michael Jeffra, 81, was traveling southbound on Dupont Boulevard north of McColley’s Chapel Road about noon when his vehicle gradually exited the west edge of the road and struck a mailbox, road sign and a large embankment. After the collision, police said the SUV caught fire. Jeffra, who was unresponsive, was pulled from the vehicle by bystanders, who began lifesaving efforts.
Jeffra was originally believed to have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash and taken to an area hospital where he died. Police said he died as a result of injuries he received in the crash.
Dupont Boulevard was closed for about two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
