William A. “Bill” Corbishley, 87, of Lewes, formerly of Chadds Ford, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.
Born in Sandusky, Mich., he served in the Army 1945-46, graduated from Michigan State University and from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking in Rutgers, N.J.
Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sara Baker; also his children, David, Brian, Julie Marrs and Douglas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; as well as three stepchildren, William, Ramsey and Sara Jean Baker.
For 55 years he was a banker with Delaware Trust, was branch manager at Fairfax, Va. for 10 years, and a commercial loan officer and vice president for 35 years. Bill served as elected tax collector of Pennsbury Township for four terms.
Delaware Trust encouraged its employees to become active in their communities and Bill took advantage of this policy to be active in a wide variety of political, religious, business and nonprofit organizations. However his greatest love was for the Seamen's Center of Wilmington of which he was a founding father. He got most satisfaction from being a ship's visitor for 14 years where he was able to interact with the merchant sailors at the Port of Wilmington.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Friday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Seamen's Center of Wilmington, P.O. Box 405, Wilmington, DE 19899.
