Cape 9-10 All-Star softball battles in District 3 Tournament

The Cape 9-10 All-Star softball squad surprised a powerful Laurel team with an 8-3 victory July 21 in Millsboro to set up a rematch with Woodbridge in District 3 action.

McKenna Boyle had 13 strikeouts against Laurel, with Taylor Husbands and Mackenzie Brown each going 4-for-4 from the plate.

The Cape team defeated Georgetown 5-4 the night before in bottom bracket play. Boyle put 12 batters in the book via the "K" and scored two of the five runs.

Taylor Husbands, Jessica Ashley and Katie Kuhlman each scored in the game.

Cape didn't fare as well July 22, as they fell to Woodbridge 9-4 to finish their 2015 District 3 season. McKenna Boyle went 3-for-3, scoring twice for Cape.

Woodbridge advanced to face Lower Sussex in the first championship game July 23 in Roxana.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
