Sussex Tech Adult Division holds graduation for Health Professions

Sussex Tech Adult Education Division recognized 33 graduates Dec. 9 with Certificates of Completion in six different Health Professions curriculums. Many of the graduates have taken and passed their National Certification Exam. Upon passing the National Certification Exam, they are qualified to work anywhere in the United States.

The Phlebotomy Technician Certification Program graduated three students. The phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical lab team whose main function is to obtain patients' blood specimens by venipuncture and micro collection for testing purposes. Graduates included Edwina Fooks, Greenwood; Lindsay Little, Camden; and Shane Ghigliotty, Lewes.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program graduated four students.  The pharmacy technician works under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in hospitals, community pharmacies and other healthcare settings. Graduates included Tymisha Downing, Lewes;  Brandom Kellam, Laurel;   Megan Hamilton, Ocean View;  and Charles Stanfield, Bridgeville.

The Clinical Medical Assistant Certification prepares students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of the medical office.

The Medical Administrative Assistant prepares students for positions in the medical office working with patients and their medical records and management of practice finances.

The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist prepares students for proper assignment of codes to medical claims in order to file claims to the insurance company for reimbursement.

The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician works closely with physical therapists and occupational therapists to help patients carry out their treatments.
