The Cape girls’ lacrosse team got even, but couldn’t get away from the Bruins of Broadneck April 23 at Champions Stadium, eventually losing 16-13.

The game was deadlocked at 8-8 at the half. Cape had one foot out the door, leading five times by one goal all the way to 13-12, but Broadneck scored twice in a row to lead 14-13. The Bruins went into a delay game, forcing a Cape double team, resulting in a couple of layups for the 16-13 victory.

Mary Moore led the Bruins in scoring with six goals. She was followed by Lilly Kelly with four, Lily Trout and Reagan Baldwin with two each, and Sam Lavorini and Lexi Dupack with one apiece. Chloe Rand tallied 10 saves on the day.

Twelve of Broadneck’s 16 goals came off assists, led by Julia Sokolowski with five.

The Bruins are 9-1 on the season, their lone loss was a 9-7 defeat by Century April 16.

Cape was led in scoring by Ella Rishko and Kelly Bragg each with four, Molly Mendez with two, and Lulu Rishko, Lexi Nowakowski and Maren Buckaloo each with one.

Anna Lopez had 12 saves for the Vikings.

Broadneck outshot Cape 30-22 with an 18-13 advantage on draw controls.

“Our defense played great, and our attack adjusted when we needed to,” said Cape head coach Lindsey Underwood. “The girls played a complete game at a high speed, so overall it was just really good lacrosse.” She added, “The girls said it was the most fun they have had playing a game so far this season! They were hyped!”

The Cape girls will host Caesar Rodney at 6:15 p.m., Monday, April 25, before playing at Smyrna at 4 p.m., Friday, April 29.
