The quest to be the best started for the Cape field hockey team Nov. 1, as the Vikings hosted Polytech in the quarterfinal round of the Division I tournament.
Cape shut out the Panthers 8-0 for the team’s 15th shutout of the season. After a scoreless first quarter, it was on like Donkey Kong, as the Vikings outshot the Panthers 36-0.
Sophomore goalie Sabrina Siaca made 21 saves in the game. In two starts versus Cape, Siaca has 51 saves on 76 shots.
Cape ran the 22-player roster at Poly.
Atia Sabbagh scored a hat trick and added an assist. Grace Heers scored two goals with two assists.
Single goals were scored by Emmilyn Swope, Mairead Rishko and Isabel Mastrangelo.
The Vikings are set to play Padua at the University of Delaware’s Rullo Stadium at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3. Smyrna will play Caesar Rodney in the 4 p.m. game.
The Division I and II state championship games will be a doubleheader at Rullo Stadium Friday, Nov. 7. The times have not been announced.
