Cape soccer drops a match to Smyrna

The Smyrna soccer team ended the Vikings’ win streak at six with a 1-0 victory Sept. 29 at Legends Stadium. The Vikings move to 6-1, while the Eagles are now 3-2.

The Vikings outshot the Eagles 9-5 and held a 6-2 edge in corners.

Dru Schneider made four saves in the Vikings’ cage, while Alex Valle made nine stops for the Eagles.

Abenego Commune scored the only goal off a pass from Sean Mitchell.

The Vikings will try to get back in the win column Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Polytech, while Smyrna welcomes Caesar Rodney.

Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
