Cape soccer smashes Tech 7-0

September 18, 2022

The Cape soccer squad shut out Sussex Tech 7-0 Sept. 15 at Cape’s Legends Stadium. Six different players scored in the game, moving the Vikings to 3-0 on the season. The Vikings have outscored their opponents 17-1 in the three games.

“It was truly a team effort,” said Cape head coach Patrick Kilby. “We had our second clean sheet in a row. Our defensive third is looking stronger and stronger with every match we play. We are getting production from different players every night, and we are becoming more differentiated across the board. Every goal scored had an assist. I think we will be a tough team to beat throughout the season. We need to make sure that we do not become complacent, and that we stay focused on our goals and continue to be result driven.”

Trent Kauffman started out the scoring off a pass from Collin Sivels. Jack Schell followed with a helper from Cardin Benjamin. Angel Haro finished the first half’s scoring off a pass from Amir Luna-Castellanos.

The second half was all Cape, as Benjamin heel-kicked in a goal off a corner kick from Aldo Hernandez-Becerra. Sivels kept the tallies coming off a pass from Schell. Schell hit the twine at the 64-minute mark from Angel Arano, and the final tally came from Kyle Skafidas off Haro at the 77-minute mark.

The Vikings outshot the Ravens 16-2.

Cape goalies Dru Schneider and Jake Hutchison teamed for two saves, while Ravens keeper Ronin Mozingo stopped nine Cape scoring attempts.

The Vikings host Sussex Central Tuesday, Sept. 20, while the Ravens travel to Caesar Rodney Monday, Sept. 19.
