Cape softball celebrates exploits at end-of-season banquet

The Cape softball team honored its players at the end-of-season awards banquet June 24 at Irish Eyes in Lewes.
Members of the regular-season undefeated team were presented with all-conference, all-state and team awards for their 2025 campaign.
The JV coaches, Kaniah James and Kelsey Huling, presented their sportsmanship award to Kallea Eleazar. Most Improved honors went to Jordyn Rogers. The JV MVP award was presented to Lyla Hunsberger.
Varsity awards were presented by coach Mike Tkach and assistant coach Allison Sullivan. Abby Marsh was presented the MVP Award. Bri Windish was presented the Most Improved Player Award. Abi Crouch was presented the Unsung Hero Award. Hayden Hudson was presented the Teammate Award and the Bill Cordrey Award. The Offensive Player of the Year went to Ava Calciano. The Defensive Player of the Year was Alivia Heers, who also received the Sportsmanship Award.






Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
