The Cape volleyball team moved to 7-6 on the season Oct. 19, as the Vikings tamed the Laurel Bulldogs 25-2, 25-3, 25-9 on Senior Night.
Senior Emily Cook led the Vikings behind the service line with 13 aces. Sophomore setter Kaylee Sockriter assisted on 16 points and served three aces. Emmie Smith put up seven assists. Freshman Amara Fruchtman knocked down seven kills, while Ava Calciano had six kills.
Cook served 16 straight winning points before the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the first set.
The Cape JV squad moved to 8-5 with a 25-9, 25-10 victory over the Bulldogs.
The Vikings will finish the 2023 regular season at Sussex Tech Tuesday, Oct. 24, and Sussex Central Thursday, Oct. 26.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
