Cape volleyball shuts out Appo

March 30, 2023

The Cape boys’ volleyball team moved to 4-0 with a 25-13, 25-8, 25-15 victory over visiting Appoquinimink March 29.

Cape senior Odin Potemski led the offense with 10 kills. Talon Stephens set up 28 teammates on offense. Charlie Casas and Brady Lamb garnered six kills each, while Lamb bumped five digs. Libero Niko Panyko tallied seven digs.

“I thought tonight was a great bounce back by us from top to bottom,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “Our service pressure was great. We decreased our errors behind the line by more than half from Friday. Niko [Panyko] led the way. He really got into a groove behind the line, and we look forward to keeping that efficiency a priority for him. I thought Odin [Potemski] had a brilliant game. It’s the first time this season finding diversity in his style of offense that allowed him to score points in a variety of ways.

“Having Dylan Henry back from injury was a great little spark for the gym. He’s worked his tail off this off season, and to get hurt on day four of preseason, it’s been a long recovery for him. He’s a huge part of our heart and soul and it shows when he’s on the court and involved.

“I’m really excited for [the Kennett Classic] Saturday. I think we’re going to be challenged from the first match, and what will be great to see is our response. We’re not going to have two days to gather our thoughts and respond. It’s going to be an hour max before the next match. I’m exited for them to see ball at a different competitive level.”
