Celebrating Beebe's Outpatient Surgery Center Team

November 16, 2016

In July 2015, I moved from Maryland and became an employee of the Beebe Medical Foundation. Beebe Healthcare and our physicians were all new to me, but in the last year I have developed a wonderful relationship with my new primary care physician, Dr. Karen McGibbon.

During my last visit with Dr. McGibbon, she told me it was time for my very first colonoscopy. To say the least, I was a little nervous. When she referred me to Dr. Armin Marefat in Lewes, I didn't hesitate to call his office. When we met a few weeks later, Dr. Marefat was very welcoming and approachable. He communicated every detail about the procedure and I was confident that he was the right doctor for me. We scheduled my colonoscopy at Beebe's Outpatient Surgery Center for the middle of September.
As the day approached I gathered my supplies and tried not to think about it too much. As I said before, I was a bit nervous.

The morning of my procedure my husband and I arrived at the Surgery Center and were greeted first by the friendly staff in the foyer just through the front doors. We were directed to the registration desk inside to the right. We next met Janice at the registration desk. She was professional, friendly and willing to answer any questions for us about what the plan was for the morning. Janice began the registration process with me and I felt very comfortable with her. She directed me to the waiting area but was available for any additional questions as I discovered. Thank you Janice!

It wasn't long before and I was taken back where I met Cynthia, Laura and Carol, my pre-op team. These wonderful ladies were now my crutch to my upcoming procedure, and I can't imagine a better team to have with me. I can't tell you how relieved I was! We went through step by step of what was going to happen, and this made me feel much more at ease. They did an outstanding job, answering my questions and taking care of any needs I had while I was under their care. One particular concern was that I have small veins, and in the past have experienced painful IV injections with bruising that would last for weeks. I warned them I was a little nervous about that, and my team worked together to get me through it with no lasting scars, physically or mentally. I can't thank them enough!

I met the surgical nurses when they came out to get me, but only so briefly. I wish I knew your names. You were wonderful. I wasn't awake long but I felt your reassurance and I was at ease.

The next thing I knew I was in the post-op area with a whole new team of nurses: Lynne, Steven and Deanna. The team was observant and focused on getting me everything I needed. I was given instructions on what to do and what not to do after I left. I wanted to have a glass of wine when I got home to celebrate my accomplishment, but Lynne told me that wasn't a good idea. Dr. Marefat came out to check on me and he gave me the findings of my procedure; he was again very kind and down-to-earth. My husband was escorted back and given all of the information he needed to answer his questions before we left. The next day I received a phone call from Lynne, one of my post-op nurses, who called just to see how I was doing.

I was amazed by the attention I was given and how nice I was treated by everyone at the Beebe Outpatient Surgery Center. Both of my teams were devoted to me and treated me in the most genuine, caring, responsive and considerate way. I was so very happy with my choice and wanted to celebrate the excellent care I had received by all of the doctors, nurses and support staff.

The picture you see with this article came from the little party we had to recognize everyone. It was a little challenging to coordinate everyone's schedule, but we did it. We played "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang, danced around with balloons, ate soft pretzels and shared hugs and genuine gratitude. I was able to "pin" everyone with Beebe's Caring Hands as Honored Team Members. It was a great day!

If you have had an excellent care experience at Beebe I encourage you to tell us about it.
