Hounds of the Little Big House dog Seaford 69-49
The pound dog puppies of Cape basketball, the Hounds of the Little Big House, were off the chain snarling in full frenzy Jan. 31 at home, at one point leading visiting Seaford 26-4 early in the second period. The all-guard starting lineup of L.T. Hazzard, Gekwan Pritchett, Tyreik Burton, D.J. Ayers and Jon Jon Warren were uptempo full throttle all the way, picking up turnovers like scraps of meat dropped from the dinner table. The players seemed more suited to drink water from buckets instead of bottles.
“We talked about bringing the dog out,” coach Steven Re said after his team built a 35-point second-half lead then shut it down for a 69-49 victory.
The team is now 10-5 on the season with five tough games remaining, beginning with Dover at home Friday, Feb. 3. Cape lost at Dover Jan. 13, 62-47. The Senators are 6-7 on the season; they have dropped five in a row and six of the last seven.
“We have five games left, and we are going to try to win them all," Re said. “People want to know if we can beat big teams starting all guards. We'll find out something on Friday night.”
Cape's scoring was paced by Burton with15, Pritchett,14, L.T. Hazzard, 11, and Warren, 10.
The Vikings managed 15 assists in the game led by Burton with 7, along with 17 steals, 5 each from Burton and L.T. Hazzard.
“Our 'bigs' are now more productive per minutes played, and that is a real positive," coach Re said after the game. “We need Sam, Andrew and Jeremiah to come off the bench and give us instant production in rebounds and score more points. The team chemistry is really good right now; everyone is pulling together to win basketball games.”
