Jazz band students from four Cape Henlopen schools, plus the University of Delaware Jazz 1 and Waterford (Connecticut) High School Jazz ensembles, will perform a free jazz festival from 4:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 16, at the Lewes Public Library outdoor pavilion, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.
The festival will kick off with Beacon, Mariner and Fred Thomas middle schools, followed by Cape High Jazz 2, Waterford High and Cape High Jazz 1. The evening will conclude with a performance from the UD Jazz 1 band.
“We are excited to play at this awesome new venue at the Lewes library,” said Christopher Burkhart, director of bands at Cape Henlopen High School. “We are proud to present the jazz bands of the Cape Henlopen School District and to be joined by our friends from Waterford High and University of Delaware.”
No registration is required. Seating will be provided, and guests are also welcome to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs for the grass.
“Cape’s music educators bring out the very best in their students, and these talented young players always put on an impressive show,” said Marin Plank, Lewes Public Library marketing director and a parent of Cape jazz students. “I am so excited for our community to come out to support the amazing work they do!”
