Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth honors meal delivery volunteers at awards luncheon
Every year as the spirit of the season fills the air, Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth hosts a celebratory luncheon to express gratitude for the service and commitment of its meal delivery volunteers. This year’s Volunteer Recognition Luncheon was held at the Atlantic Sands Hotel.
Delivery volunteers for Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth are deeply committed. Six drivers have been delivering meals for the organization for more than a decade. This year, drivers contributed 8,046 combined hours delivering nutritional meals to local homebound residents in the neighborhoods of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Harbeson. They logged 74,880 collective miles to provide over 102,000 meals to their clients.
Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth meal delivery volunteer 2014 award recipients were recognized. Top honors went to Bill Ziegler, who was presented with the 2014 William B. Holman Volunteer of the Year Award as well as the award for volunteer drivers contributing over 250 hours of meal delivery service.
For more than 44 years, Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth has played a critical role in helping local homebound residents in eastern Sussex County maintain healthy, independent lives by providing hot meals and warm smiles each weekday to over 200 agency clients. As a source of daily contact for these homebound neighbors, the nonprofit organization helps clients avoid institutional living, thereby aiding in containing healthcare costs.
The need for meal delivery services continues to grow every year. All donations to Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth remain in Sussex County, and 100 percent of every donation goes directly to providing meal services to local homebound citizens. Since Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth is a 501c3 charitable organization, all donations are tax deductible.
