Revival House presents ‘The Big Lebowski’ July 19 at Milton Theare

July 14, 2018

Lace up those bowling shoes and belly up to the bar for a White Russian, as the Revival House is celebrating two decades with The Dude, with a screening of "The Big Lebowski" Thursday, July 19, at the Milton Theatre.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., with music by Al Frantic, musician and owner of Frantic Frets of Milton, and beverages from Beach Time Distilling. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite "Lebowski" character, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Guitarist Frantic has been performing as part of the three-piece band, The Al Frantic Band, in New Jersey for more than a decade. Since relocating to Delaware, Frantic has been a staple at the Gray Hare Tavern in Rehoboth Beach, as well as performing at Cape Henlopen State Park. His most recent venture is opening Frantic Frets Music & Antiques in Milton. Frantic Frets offers a number of classic guitars, lessons, repairs and home decor for the music aficionado. Frantic will bring a number of items from his shop to the show as well as perform a live set on stage prior to the sceening. He has agreed to play no Eagles songs, as to appease The Dude.

Beach Time Distilling from Lewes will serve its signature "leisurely refined spirits" during the evening, with drinks crafted from their own vodkas that would create a White Russian that would receive the Dude's seal of approval. Additionally, visitors can choose from more the 15 beers, seven wines and, of course, Maine Root root beer, a proud sponsor of the Revival House.

Celebrating the film's 20th anniversary, "The Big Lebowski" is perhaps one of the most enduring films of the Coen Brothers' career, spawning an annual "Lebowski Fest" at which fans of the film ("Achievers" in the parlance of our times) attend dressed as their favourite characters, and a religion known as "Dudeis." (which subscribes to the fact that "Life is short and complicated and nobody knows what to do about it. So don't do anything about it. Just take it easy, man.")

Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro and a host of others, "Lebowski" is a wildly madcap journey of an average guy who gets mixed up with some very eclectic characters in a case of kidnapping and mistaken identity.

The film's outlandish characters, lavish set design and endlessly quotable dialogue has led to a cult following that lasted long after it left the theater, including a Lebowski-inspired store in New York City, two African spiders being named after it (Anelosimus biglebowski and Anelosimus dude), and the topic of several social and political analyses. But more than all that, it's just damn fun.

Strap on jellie sandals, don that favorite bowling shirt and swing on down to the Milton Theatre Thursday, July 19, for the Revival House's special 20th Anniversary screening of "The Big Lebowski." Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors (the film is rated R, so those younger than 17 must be accompanied by an adult).
