The Sussex Academy field hockey team used a Sept. 6 scrimmage with Smyrna as its final tune-up for the upcoming fall season.
The Seahawks scored two goals against a tough Eagles defense.
“We are confident in this young developing team, as they improve game by game,” said head coach Leah Hunsinger. “We started out strong with our passing game led by center midfields Rilyn Lehman and Shelby Manlove and forward Natalee Petty, but started to lose our composure towards the end of the game as Smyrna stepped up attacking the cage. We have lots of building from that game and we are excited to start the season off strong Thursday.”
Sussex Academy opens the regular season at home Thursday, Sept. 8 against Polytech.
