Harold ‘Hal’ S. Marriott II, loved the outdoors

June 27, 2018

Harold "Hal" S. Marriott II, 74, of Lewes passed away after a brief illness Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Christiana Care Health Systems in Newark. He was born Monday, Nov. 1, 1943, in Torrington, Conn., son of the late Harold S. and Jane (Blake) Marriott.

Hal grew up in Tenants Harbor, Maine, and Dover. He spent his boyhood exploring the woods and rocky cliffs near his home in Maine where he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. Hal returned many times over the years to the childhood haunts that he loved and will find peace there at his journey's end. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and most especially fishing. Hal loved all living things, and rescued many lost dogs, baby birds, and even the occasional reptile along the way. He had a ready smile and a friendly ear for anyone he met, and would always be among the first to step up to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.

Hal joined ADT Security Systems as a salesman in 1968, honing the skills of his trade in Pennsylvania. He relocated to suburban Washington, D.C., in 1976 as a founding member of the original Federal Systems Group at the company. Hal retired in 2006 and moved with his wife Laura, whom he married in 1989, and youngest son Ian, to Bethany Beach so he could "fish every day."

He made many new friends at the "fishing hole," and when asked by those who had not yet retired, his response was always, "Join me as soon as you can!" Hal loved nothing better than to teach others, especially youngsters, some of the skills he developed from those days spent fishing at the Indian River Inlet.

He truly lived Shakespeare's adage: "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none."

Hal is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Laura (Wallace) Marriott; his sons: Robert James Marriott, MD, of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Ian McConnell Marriott of Bear; his daughter-in-law, Andrea Marriott; and his grandchildren: Isabella, Jackson, Henry and Ivan Marriott.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 28, at 3 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Hal's memory to Dysautonomia International, 6151 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 20852, or  www.dysautonomiainternational.com.
