Kathryn Dukes Hoffman, retired cafeteria manager

Kathryn Gilbert Dukes Hoffman, 94, of Seaford, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family and devoted caregivers. Kathryn was born Aug. 28, 1920, at her parents' home near Seaford. She attended grade school in Cannon, and graduated from Bridgeville High School. She was the youngest of five children born to Harvey and Effie Gilbert.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She served in the Bridgeville and Woodbridge school districts for 27 years in the food services department, 17 as cafeteria manager. She was a member of Cannon United Methodist Church most of her life, transferring to Saint John's United Methodist Church when the Cannon Charge was closed; The Order of The Eastern Star, Widows and Widowers, and Seaford Senior Center. She was the oldest living attendee at the Bridgeville High School Reunion in Sept. 2011.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Dukes in 1987; and later by her second husband, C Myles (Bill) Hoffman in 1996; her brothers, Nelson Gilbert and Robert Gilbert; and her twin sisters, Ina Bunting and Eva Gilbert.

She is survived by her son, Wayne A. Dukes (Sharon); daughter, Beverly D. Henry (David); eight grandchildren, Robyn Sturgeon (Mike), Heather Stokley (Chris), Krista Schirmer (Morgan), T J Dukes (Rachel), Carol Warrington (Kenny), Effie Charnick, Trisha Henry and Mike Henry; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at Parsells Funeral Home & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where friends may visit beginning at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn's name to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
