Blue team defeats White in boys’ lax all-star game

The Blue squad fought off a late surge by the White team to garner an 18-16 victory in the annual Blue-White Senior All-Star Game June 13 at DE Turf.

The White team held a 6-4 edge at the end of the first period and went into the halftime break with a 10-9 lead. The Blue squad outscored the White team 7-5 in the second half to take bragging rights 18-16.

The White team’s Luke Burton of Cape led all scorers with five goals. Cape’s Joe Coveleski tallied three scores. Max Forrey of Indian River and Cape’s Brexton Carter each hit for two, Cape’s C.J. Fritchman, Gabriel Hammen-Smith of Sussex Central, William Li of Caesar Rodney and Owen Peel of Milford each cranked one goal.

Blue team’s Connor Riley and Chase Black of Salesianum scored three goals apiece. Shane Gorman of Concord, Nate Liu of Wilmington Christian and Jackson Redd of Wilmington Friends tallied two each. Colin Beaman of Delaware Military Academy, Charlie Friz of Tower Hill, Danny Kupiec of Archmere, Anthony Mangini of Newark Charter, Matt Duarte of Caravel and Na’Zari Donegal-Pringle of Mount Pleasant each scored one.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
