The Cape girls’ tennis team fought to a second-place tie with Dover in the Henlopen Conference Tennis Tournament May 9 at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach. The Vikings boys’ team placed fifth.
Caesar Rodney took first in the girls’ draw with 26 points. Cape and Dover tied for second with 16, while Smyrna placed third with 12. The boys’ draw was won by Caesar Rodney with 30 points. Sussex Academy placed second with 11 points, while Smyrna tied for third with Indian River.
Cape senior Samantha Connors finished third in first singles. Noa Aboutboul finished third at second singles. MacKenzie Vitolo finished third at third singles. The first doubles teams of Rachel Ramjattansingh and Julianna Warnock finished third and the second doubles team of Sia Patel and Madison Costello finished second.
On the boys’ side Cape’s Ben Koly finished fourth at second singles. The first doubles team of Aiden Bowman and Declan Morrissey finished third, while the second doubles team of Rahul A. Patel and Rahul C. Patel also finished third.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
