Cape soccer falls to Sussex Academy 4-0
Sussex Academy goalkeeper Emma Westbrook earned her seventh shutout of the season May 10, with a 4-0 win over Cape Henlopen.
Kenna Webb scored two goals for the Seahawks, while Tayler Flaherty and Katherine Portillo each hit the twine once. Flaherty was credited with two assists. Portillo and Sherllyn Morales Alvarado each had a helper.
The Seahawks outshot the Vikings 15-5 and held a 2-1 advantage in corners. Westbrook tallied five saves, while Cape’s Bri Burrell stopped 11 scoring attempts.
The Seahawks move to 7-5 on the season, while the Vikings drop to 7-5.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
