April 11, 2022

The No. 2-ranked Cape girls’ tennis team was run down by Caesar Rodney 5-0 April 8 in Camden.

Fist singles player Samantha Connors fell to Caesar Rodney’s Erin Gross 6-2, 6-2. Second singles player Noa Aboutboul lost to the Riders’ Evelyn Snyder 6-0, 6-1. Mackenzie Vitolo dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to Ava Vu at third singles.

The Cape first doubles team of Rachel Ramjattansingh and Juliana Warnock fell to Caesar Rodney’s Carolena Lord and Maxine Banaag 6-2, 6-4, while second doubles duo Madison Costello and Sia Patel fell to CR’s Allyson Lebendig and Yatra Patel 6-3, 6-3.

“We went into the match knowing they were a good team with good tennis players,” said Cape assistant coach Dave Shook. “It certainly didn’t help that they were much sharper after practicing indoors the three days it rained. We feel very good about this team, and will use the experience to highlight the level of preparation necessary to compete at the conference tournament.”
