Benjamin Marshall Reynolds Jr., 93, a lifetime resident of Milton, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend.
Marshall was born in Milton Aug. 5, 1932, and was raised there. Marshall was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth A. Reynolds; his parents, B. Marshall Reynolds Sr. and Ethel A. Reynolds; and two of his children, his stepsons, Raymond Heisler and James Heisler. Marshall is survived by his sister, Estella Jester; and his children, Ben and Diane Reynolds, Michael and Jackie Reynolds, Debbie Jones, Marsha and John Wolstenholme, and Ruthie Scott. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason Heisler, Jody Heisler, Tammy Beenick, Sheldon Scott, Michael Reynolds Jr., Nathan Reynolds, Heather Hitchens, Jerry Jones, Benjamin Reynolds IV, Sierra Yerger, and Eddie and Amanda Wolstenholme; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Marshall dedicated his life to his family, work and two organizations. Marshall worked many different jobs throughout his life, from delivering milk to selling insurance to working at King Cole. Even when he retired, he did not retire. He went on to work for his son and install cable TV systems. Two of Marshall's passions were Milton Lions Club and Milton Odd Fellows, where he dedicated a good part of his life. He had just celebrated 66 years as an Odd Fellow, and one of his dreams was to see the Milton Odd Fellows lodge grow in people, to have a lodge building constructed near the cemetery, and to make that building welcoming to all. He wanted to give back to the community he loved. But one of the best things Marshall was known for was his passion for the Town of Milton; some people have even nicknamed him “Mr. Milton,” and he showed this by the way he took care of the Milton Odd Fellows Cemetery. He took care of the cemetery for over 25 years and never asked for or complained about anything. He always had a smile and a conversation. If you ever met Marshall, you knew he was famous for starting up conversations with strangers and asking them, “Where do you live?” Another passion of Marshall’s was running the rest stop in Milton for the MS Bike to the Bay. It started over 30 years ago at Miss Polly’s and is still going strong to this day. You could always count on Marshall to hand you a free scrapple sandwich, a cup of Gatorade and a conversation.
Marshall was loved by all he met and will truly be missed.
A viewing for Marshall will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 15, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. A funeral will be held at noon, Saturday, May 16, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Milton Odd Fellows Cemetery, Union St., Milton. A celebration of life ceremony for family and immediate friends will be held at Milton Fire Hall immediately after.
Flowers are accepted; however, Marshall and his family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Milton Odd Fellows Building Fund, c/o Michael Reynolds, 166 Lakeside Drive, Laurel, DE 19956, so that Marshall’s dream can come true.
